Recognition of Prior Learning - RPL

RPL is suitable for people with work experience such as existing estate agents or principals.

The RPL assessment requires the RPL student to submit evidence based on their knowledge, practical experience and workplace evidence.

The RPL process focuses on the assessment as opposed to training and it provides a quicker route to achieve the qualifications.

The Estate Agency Affairs Board regulations require all existing Estate Agents and Principals to complete the RPL by end of 2011

Recognition of Prior Learning will be done by means of an RPL assessment and exemptions could be awarded for previous studies and work experience.

REBS PROVIDES RPL FOR BOTH ESTATE AGENTS AND PRINCIPAL QUALIFICATIONS

The RPL process is conducted as follows:

  • Existing Real Estate Agents and Principals can apply to do the RPL assessments.
  • Applicant must fill in the online Registration form and include the section for RPL click here.
  • Once registration has been accepted REBS will provide the RPL orientation guide, assessment documents and additional resources.
  • Login passwords will be provided to access the required information online.
  • The RPL candidate would complete the RPL assessments and submit the required Portfolio of Evidence.
  • Once the learner's portfolio has been received an assessor will go through the portfolio and provide an assessment report with feedback.
  • If required the candidate would resubmit the required outstanding remedial evidence.
  • Once found competent certificates would be issued.

RPL workshops

Learners can choose to attend RPL workshops at an additional fee. These workshops are conducted every fortnight in Johannesburg on Tuesdays.

(Workshops in other areas are available subject to demand)

Real Estate Agents would attend 6 workshops and the Principals 8 workshops.

The RPL process as a guide takes about 3/4 months to complete but duration times may vary. RPL must be completed within 12 months.

Existing estate agents and principals should do the RPL assessment.

If you have previous qualifications you may apply for the RPL exemption.

RPL EXEMPTIONS

If you have previous South African qualifications you may apply for the RPL exemption.

Exemptions could be awarded for previous qualifications. Work experience is not suitable for exemptions but would allow you to do the RPL assessment as opposed to doing the full study course.

Estate Agents:

Estate agents with matric including maths and second language receive exemption for 56 credits.

If you have a matric with a second language but no maths the exemption is for 40 credits.

The previous Estate Agency Affairs Board exam gives exemption for 18 credits.

The total credits required for the estate agents qualification is a minimum 150 credits.

Principals get no credits for matric or the previous board exam.

If you are over 60 years of age and have held a fidelity fund certificate for the previous 5 years you may qualify for an exemption.

If you have completed a full qualification as per the matrix provided below it is possible to receive a full exemption for the estate agents and principals qualifications.

Please ensure that your qualifications are suitable before you apply for the full exemption.

If your previous studies are not suitable for the full exemption you should register for the Estate Agents or Principals RPL assessment.
